Scripture of the Week
Psalm 125
(August 18, 2008)
Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
As the mountains surround Jerusalem. So the Lord surrounds His people, from this time forth and forever.
For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous, lest the righteous reach out their hands to iniquity.
Do good, O Lord, to those who are good, and to those who are upright in their hearts.
As for such as turn aside to their crooked ways, the Lord shall lead them away with the workers of iniquity.
Peace be upon Israel! Psalm 125
Psalm 125 is an incredible, compressed glimpse of the essence of the Lord’s covenant and love for Israel, and His disdain for the wicked. This song of Ascents draws on God’s declaration of Israel everlasting and His inescapable wrath against those who seek her harm. It serves as a powerful illustration of His favor for those who walk in His ways, or judgment of those who choose to do evil.
As Christians United For Israel presses on and continues to grow, we draw encouragement knowing that these are among the covenants we have been grafted into through Jesus Christ. We have, and will again, encounter those that would seek us to stumble, but like the mountains surround Jerusalem, the Lord surrounds His people.
The Scripture of the Week was written by Randy Neal, the Western Regional Coordinator for Christians United For Israel.
